All set for
KTM-2004
The stage is being set to showcase the state of Kerala at the third Kerala Travel Mart – KTM 2004 which will be held from September 30th to October 2nd,2004 at the Le Meridien International Convention
Centre, Cochin.
The KTM is held once every two years during the last
thursday, friday and saturday of September. The previous ones were held in 2000 and 2002.
The KTM is a major event conducted by the KTM Society in partnership with the Tourism Dept.- Govt. of Kerala. The objective of the Mart is to create a platform for Sellers( like hotels, resorts, houseboats, ayurvedic treatment
centres, tour operators, adventure tours, etc) and Buyers ( who include tour operators, travel media and the like from different parts of India and from all over the world).
“As many as 600 visiting cards were dropped in my bowl” said a gleeful seller at KTM 2002. Compared to any other Fair I have been to in India, this was, without exception, by far the best,” commented a leading Tour Operator from the United Kingdom. Around 800 delegates from 51 countries including different parts of India participated as Buyers.
For KTM 2004, the Sellers will occupy around 200 stalls, all under one roof, thus making a platform to interact, negotiate and create avenues to sell Kerala as a tourist destination of sorts. All the 105 air-conditioned stalls have been sold out with a few stalls in the non air-conditioned category remaining. A Marina (boat-jetty) will also be erected to accommodate 10 Houseboats.
Over 500 International and domestic buyers are expected to participate in this mega Event which will be inaugurated on 29th Sep 04 followed by a cultural extravaganza. 250 participants have already registered. Complimentary accomodation and transportation will be provided to these delegates by the KTM Society.
Pre and Post Tours of two to three days duration will be offered for them to get a first hand experience making Kerala a ‘must see’ destination.

Holistic treatment
There is the well known story of Emperor Trajan who on his arrival at the Persian Gulf in AD116 bemoaned, on watching mariners setting sail for India, that he was too old to make the voyage and gaze at the wonders of India. Modern-day Trajans have no such worry; they come in hordes not merely to gaze at the wonders India offers but to benefit by them. Over the centuries the world has shrunk. And neither age nor custom prevents people from visiting places in pursuit of their favorite avocations. One of the attractions of India has been its monsoon, as much its fury as its friendliness. Monsoon chasing in itself is fascinating. It's even more when it helps one to rejuvenate oneself. In Kerala that's what one looks for at this time. The monsoon months are said to be ideal for Ayurvedic regimen. The summer heat reduces immunity and weakens the body.

According to the National Cancer Institute, cancer accounts for 12 percent of the total deaths in the country. In developed countries, heart disease is the greatest killer, followed by cancer. An estimated 80 lakh people die of cancer. In India, there are about 25 lakh cancer patients.

'charaiveti charaiveti' which connotes the unending journey of man in quest of knowledge .The word Caraka meaning 'one who always wanders' stands in close relation to this concept. NEEM, A PANACEA FOR ALL ILLS
Vedic literature is perhaps the earliest document of plant life. It has been recorded that plant life began to flourish on the Earth three yugas ago, which means many thousands of years, before the time of the
Devas. Vedic scholars had deep insight and intuition, by which they unravelled the hidden values and greatness of plants. They considered plants to be of divine origin and worshipped them as the "Mother Goddess", by chanting verses
('Oushathi sookthas'), in praise of them. More

Pomogranate: The longevity plant
Prof C P Unnikrishnan
Medicine to the folk of modern world appears to be packs of chemicals made by one and prescribed by another to be taken by the sufferer. But, the ancient wisdom of all countries prior to the dawn of science and technological advances maintained the tradition of keeping diseases away by consuming the right food, predominantly from the green world. They identified fruits, as pleasant to eat food that worked both at preventive as well as curative levels and saved man from diseases or the havoc diseases could cause.

VANILLA
Vanilla is a climbing orchid (Vanilla
Planifolia). The unripened fruits (beans) are subjected to fermentation-curing process to produce the characteristic aroma. The unique fragrance and flavour is due to vanillin. Synthetic vanillin because of its price competitiveness works as a major substitute over the use of vanilla beans. However, vanilla bean is still the most preferred for the food flavour spice.
